Agronomist/Technical Field Consultant - BAgSc (Hons)
Phillip joined Abron in May 2008 initially as a part time field consultant. He joined the team at Abron as a full time Technical Consultant in June 2009.
Apart from a five year period travelling and working overseas Phillip has lived and worked in Hawkes Bay for the past 30 years. Phillip carried out a BAgSc degree (hons) from Massey in the 1970’s then was employed as a soil conservator for five years with the HB Catchment Board. After returning to NZ he worked for a HB vegetable growing and processing business for twenty five years initially as Farm Manager and later as General Manager and Sales Manager. During this time Phillip completed his PhD in the Plant Science department at Massey University.
His research on the involvement of autotoxins, herbicide residues and pathogenic fungi in the asparagus replant problem equipped Phillip well for the work he does now at Abron. Over the last five years Phillip became increasingly interested in biological farming and found that the biological approach to growing pastures and crops was based on sound scientific principles that resulted in healthy soils, healthy plants and healthy animals. He was pleasantly surprised to learn that there are better ways to improve soil, plant and animal health than through the use of increasingly sophisticated formulations of soluble fertilisers, herbicides, fungicides and animal remedies that he had spent much of his working life developing and using.
Phillip is convinced that by employing good soil husbandry techniques that Abron promote, farmers can resolve many of the issues that face our world at the moment. He is excited by the results that farmers following the Abron system achieve and works with the Abron team of consultants to ensure that our clients receive the best possible results in their farming businesses.
