Gareth Holder

Gareth_Holder_web.jpgTechnical Field Consultant - BASc (Hons)

Gareth is an award winning horticulturalist with an extensive background in the horticultural industry. Gareth joined Abron in February 2010 and covers the East Coast of the North Island.

In addition to his day-to-day consultancy for Abron, he currently continues to grow export produce using the principles of biological agriculture and is extremely pleased with the quality results he has achieved. Past responsibilities include the growing and managing of numerous export and process vegetable crops.

Gareth has a Bachelor of Applied Science with Honours in Horticulture from Massey University. Recently, Gareth was crowned Young Grower of the Year 2010, and came third in the Young Horticulturalist of the Year 2010. Over the last 7 years he has been a part of two large vertically integrated vegetable businesses managing their growing operations.

Gareth became exposed to biological agriculture in 2005 through attendance to an Arden Anderson workshop, and immediately looked to integrate the key principles of biological agriculture to increase the integrity and quality of the produce grown. To further his knowledge he also attended a four day workshop presented by Graeme Sait. He believes greater attention needs to be given to all minerals required to grow crops rather than N, P and K and also believes that the future of our food resource comes down to the quality of the soil it is grown in.
