Technical Field Consultant - BAg
Paul’s background is in agriculture, growing up, working on and eventually managing a hill country sheep and beef farm, gaining a Bachelor of Agriculture degree from Massey University along the way.
He moved to horticulture in 1989 growing asparagus and apples. Paul served on the NZ Asparagus Research Committee for 13 years where his role was to act as a bridge between growers and researchers, guiding the direction of research then helping disseminate the resulting information through field days, seminars and commercial trials.
In the apple industry he was a member of the original group of 80 growers who piloted the introduction of Integrated Fruit Production (IFP) which lead to an industry wide switch away from organo–phosphate pesticides.
Since early 2008 Paul has worked on building soil carbon projects in partnership with an environmental services company in Wisconsin, USA.
Paul has attended biological farming conferences and courses here and in Australia and has met a wide range of farmers running different systems. Collectively this background has taught him about building soils and sustainable farming, which led to his position working as a consultant for Abron. Paul loves meeting farmers and getting involved in helping create healthier soils and farming systems through sustainable fertiliser solutions for their farms.
